>> hi, everybody. welcome to night number nine of the stanley cup playoffs here on cnbc. bill patrick along ten-year nhl player anson carter. the bruins up over the maple leafs. who stood out to in game three? >> i love the number one line in boston, in particular, david kraj impri. he was a force in all three phases of the hockey game. david krejci, down low, supporting his "d" down low and great outlet pass and passing the puck off to lucic down the wall. big goal for the bruins. again, strong in the face-off. when you control in the circles, bill, you control the play. he was a big part of that and winning that face-off. in order to for the bruins to continue to have success they need to have trainingy playing at the top of his game which he has been doing and he is a stanley cup winner and proven winner and look to see him

having a big game tonight. >> a lot of weapons on the bruins roster and tuukka rask stopped 45 of 47 shots. just unbelievable. he was not included as a vezina finalist today and he might have a little chip on his shoulder tonight. >> i would have a huge chip on my shoulder! you look at the numbers. tuukka rask has been unbelievable for the boston bruins. he is a rocket for them and a little question mark with thomas not being in there whether or not he could carry the mail but he has done it so far and giving his team a lot of confidence the way he has been playing and hasn't lost a game for them. >> one guy might have to be great for toronto is jeff joffrey lupul. he had a pair of goals in the win over boston in game two. game four between the bruins and the toronto coming up. ♪

coming back. game four in toronto is under way. bergeron line with tyler seguin, 17 shots but no goals. dropped the puck off and bergeron hooks one at the net. a speedy start for seguin who has been noticeable through the series but hasn't been able to get any goal. van riemsdyk to kulemin. the play offsides and you can tell in the first 26 seconds of this game there's some real speed to it. grandmothers t >> gary: the one thing you need is calmness to play within yourself. this is important for toronto. kulemin and van riemsdyk not able on the board offensively. kulemin and grabovski both minus four.

lupul can't get it out of the zone against horton. he'll need some help. chara dumps it right back in. mark fraser, cody franzen start out of their own pair. in deep. seidenberg is back and i guess it wasn't tipped because it's an icing call as we go down between the benches and join glenn healey. >> you talked about matchups. the krejci line is lightsout against toronto. fraser and franzen. before the game, let's take a look at what is most important. toronto maple leafs face-off guys are so value aband working on it before they get in front of the ice. >> bob: tyler has been pretty good.

center and dumps the puck in. peverley scored a goal in game three. wade redden with a wrist shot and deflected. one of the point shots with a screen and this deflected wide. jagr works along the board where he is so effective and got some help from adam mcquaid to keep the puck in. redden down the boards and orr went down and all the way across the puck to hit him. shoot. rebound. another save by reimer on dan paille! that will get james reimer into the game. two big saves. joffrey lupul back on the ice in the attacking zone. kessel falls in behind him. takes the pass. he has bozak in front. shot. score! joffrey lupul!

a change on the fly. chara and phil kessel sets up joffrey lupul for his third of the playoff. 1-0 toronto. >> gary: a tough save here. reimer equal to the task and with that change you end up with zdeno chara on the wrong side of the ice. playing the right side and redden on the left. reddin to the wrong guy and lupul in the doorstep with the quick onetimer that beats rask. redden was up on the rush. ill-advised pinch and doesn't take his man in front. double whammy on the same shift. >> bob: you see chara desperate to try to get back to the other side and even pushed redden out of the way, or tried to. >> gary: so often you make the change. doesn't matter what side. chara takes the first guy but in the defensive zone, sometimes that miscommunication, tired at the he end of the shift was redden as well. >> bob: chara barely left the

ice in the first three minutes of the game and off there. the bruins come out. the fans got a chance to get into it here. something that didn't happen a while in game number three but they are engaged now and their team is ahead on the goal by lupul from kessel and gardiner at 2:35 in the first period. shot kicked away. here comes nathan horton. left the puck for krejci. back to adam mcconveydcquaid. fa noof. in the midst of a change. he duches the puck in and goes after it himself. now he has some help from bozak. lupul there as well. he turns up the boards but he can't get away. bozak line playing against david krejci line and fast paced first period. another big hit. lupul up against mcquaid. here comes david krejci to

center. lucic takes the pass back to krejci. he just backhanded the puck in front where lupul makes a great play to take the puck and sends it on to kadri. threw the puck to an open wing and chara shoots it back in as lupul tried to get a piece of him as the leafs have on every occasion they have a chance to. lupul kicks the puck to center. kadri on the fly after chara. they play a little catch. >> gary: the get the feelings the nervous energy is gone? unlike game three here. intensity on the ice for both sides. >> bob: bruins go just offside. wonderful start to a hockey game for both sides. the leafs have the lead. >> gary: here is how you get rid of the nervous energy. physical game. they don't hide the fact they want a piece of chara. this is the shift that the goal was scored on. three times he was bumped into and until the leafs came down the ice and chara out of

position. redden out of position. reaction outside tells it all. it looks like a lot of fun there. fun in here too. >> bob: not bad. here is the fourth line shift from both sides. thornton and komarov shoulder-to-shoulder. o'byrne with a rink-side pass. back pendi pedaling is mcquaid. thornton dumps the puck in and paille goes after it and o'byrne there the same time and gloves in the face of paille. adam mcquaid gets the puck and shoots it back in. bruins are off on a change.

gardiner stopped up. bergeron. o'byrne. thought they had time and looked like they had time and kessel with the puck. centering pass almost into the net. that would have been interesting call had he put that in as he ran into the goaltender. >> gary: a problem for toronto. o'byrne had lots of time and didn't get his feet moving and turns it over and almost in the back of the net. >> bob: white has to dump the puck in for bergeron. he can't get it. a battle on the boards. van riemsdyk pitching is andrew ference. seguin fell down and leafs a chance to come out. two-on-one to center. catching up to him is beganargu. >> gary: toronto doing the same in the offensive zone. >> bob: lucic fires and horton was given a flash on the fly-by.

>> bob: everybody is skating early in this game so the team that stops doing that is going to be in a little trouble. >> gary: puck management is really important. you see gardener puts his partner o'byrne in trouble. he takes from his side and partner hung out to dry.

the bruins support the puck so well offensive. >> the one thing toronto has to do if there is a turnover you can't take five minutes to get over it. the bruins get over it right away. veteran team. turnover, no big deal. toronto, game three, turnover, goal. five minutes of thinking about it. >> bob: bozak won a face-off in his own zone. franzen the puck to center. puck is on the leaf bench so play is stopped. >> gary: i think one of the interesting things from game three on was the fact that randy didn't want to mess with all of his lineup and made the one-man change and that doesn't disrupt your lineup nearly as much and allows only one guy to be conscious when chara is out there. you hope that you get some chemistry from your other line. >> bob: neutral zone face-off won by the leafs. lupul had it get away and another shot at chara and gets the puck and bozak, what a save by rask!

point blank and rask telescoped right out to tyler bozak and made a wonderful save. horton on the breakout. lucic trying to skate real well. horton. lucic. can't get a good shot away and reimer stopped him and milan lucic gets going and horton gets going and this line is alone. >> gary: you look at the leafs captain and you think of aggressiveness and confidence. right now, anticipating the play. look at bozak in the middle of the ice and supporting him defensively so that phaneuf can make that play happen. see how quickly the bruins counter, though. when you get aggressive in the offensive zone and pinch, you better have that support going back defensively. >> bob: a challenge. he hasn't taken many face-offs in his own zone. just his seventh in the series and trying to tie up here and he gets help from the winger and he gets the win.

franzen not moving fast and about lost the puck and now he has. jagr to peverley to the front of the net. clearing the puck to the board. kelly and jagr. jagr wants this puck because he protects it so well. franzen up the boards. phil kessel gets the puck and darts out to center. he has two with them. couldn't get it. threw it in front and rask has got it! when he couldn't quite get his shot, phil kessel tried to bank one in off rask and he just about did it. >> gary: you wonder why coaches stick with the matchups so much. both randy carlyle offensively trying to get it and claude julien defensively. ference can't get the speed in the middle on cass he'll and kessel almost banks in about past rask. >> you talked about the play earlier. phaneuf. he lets him know we need a change on that read that you talked about and that last save

by reimer was a thing of beauty. up the ice. look at the speed. this kind of size and skill and krejci all alone on the far side. if that pass gets kroacross, ita 6x4. the skating you were talking about, huey. >> bob: a dangerous lining with lucic skating like that. you know who has the puck. tyler seguin. patrice bergeron couldn't tip the puck. stood up at the blue line and about got hit by a shoot-in by adam mcquaid. >> gary: is this the twot series? >> bob: a delayed offsides call will bring the face-off back into the neutral zone. >> gary: the one thing you have to do is stay on this line if you're toronto maple leafs. they have been aggressive and they have been in and had lots of chances but have not been on the scoreboard.

there gunnarson takes a hit and gets a skate on skate but they are able to get the puck just out. >> bob: that top line is the second line it looks like and has 17 points and the other three, 3, 2, and 1. most of the offense has come from one group. one power-play goal for boston. phil kessel. a pass outside of the reach of lupul. lupul couldn't get the puck. big shot. knocked down by james reimer again as brad marchand got the shot and the puck comes down the ice and seidenberg is back after it. no icing. leafs are changing. the puck at their bench. marchand snatched it away. too sharp an angle to shoot' protects the puck. chara hammers one and defected off colton orr and into the corner. fraser double teamed. flipper on a pinball machine

until he gets it through to joffrey lupul. tyler bozak. up with the play and he dumps the puck in and toronto is changing on the fly once again. toronto will have to tie up as seidenberg has a chance to move up. chara, krejci line is on the ice. franzen turns the puck bath tork way. a shot. blocker save by tuukka rask. krejci starts to break out from horton. lucic again. lumbering in on o'byrne. a shot to the blue line by ference deflected wide and another stop and stopped by reimer and he gets the carom off the end boards and point shots keep coming from the bruins. >> that is why reimer has to be cleaner on his outs. you can't give boston a chance. game three, reimer gave up 14 rebounds to rask's seven. rebounds are not good when you've got the boston bruins who

are so big and can impose their will around the front of the t net. >> bob: they have done that and kicked the puck back to the point a lot looking for shots through traffic. krejci and kadri. cranially wins the draw. boychuk takes the shot. macarthur blocked it. phaneuf gets control and moves the puck to kadri. kessel ahead of him and size mismatch and kessel got his stick strobleg on strongly. turns and has room and krejci is changing. picked up some speed. pass is off and macarthur had that out of his reach and back come the bruins the other way. milan lucic through the middle. nathan horton shoots and blocker save by james reimer. kessel got the puck to the point.

>> bob: everything about game four has a crispness not in the other games in this series. >> gary: you're right. pace and punishment. if we're done under two hours if these guys keep this up. one thing is clear anyone wearing a colored sweater different than yours you've been requested to take advantage of it. the game has been very physical early on. nerves are gone and 100 hits of game three have carried over into game four tonight. >> bob: gardiner takes a shot. not through the crowd.

puck knocked out of the air to a neutral zone face-off. to remind you we have the second screen up again tonight. use your phone or tablet up. join us. >> gary: you make a great point about the speed of the game and makes it so much difficult on the bench to look what is going on and see what the matchup is and get the right player out on the ice for both of these coaches. >> bob: early on, i'd say the leafs speed has crossed up the bruin defense a little bit. a couple times. they have been on them in a hurry. gardin gardiner. o'byrne couldn't make the pass out front. mcquaid hustles to keep the puck in. paille for campbell. mcquaid against campbell. redden to campbell. o'byrne lost his stick and thornton trying to get the puck and he's got it.

this fourth line is an excellent line along the boards for boston and leafs in their own zone. redden turns away from komarov into campbell. shot off the skate. battle between komarov and thornton. the leafs get a chance to get out and gardiner got it started with a pinch and toronto changes. wade redden, relay to center. brad marchand. dumped in by bergeron. seguin couldn't get to the puck. lupul hard up the boards and seidenberg and bozak pushed the puck by him to center. seidenberg defers to marchand who dumps the puck back in. hard around the boards. tipped off the boards and good play by toronto to get out. cody franzen to fraser.

the first period now settles in but still continuous action. up the middle and tip-in and gets to seidenberg. charge rah poked the puck away to the open corner. marchand has to come back and rims the puck around for seguin. lost control. turned it over! a penalty on the play and they will say he lost control because he was tripped! and phaneuf is going off for tripping and boston bruins get game four's first power play. >> gary: glenn talked about speed and speed all over the ice. defensemen stepping up and being aggressive. that time a little errant aggressiveness. it's about winning the battles along the boards. pinch by gardiner and hesitating a second and you need that support coming back and he gets it from the forwards and his defense partner. you can survive those aggressive pinches, that's where you're going to have success. >> should be aggressive on the

penalty kill here. long shift for chara and seidenberg and trying to get redden on here now. especially negotiated that change. >> bob: they waited and waited and had so many players on the ice to confuse the issue and buy some time to get a rest. >> they are done that and now chara getting put back on. >> bob: now he is getting tossed. redden gets to stay. this is the power play that is 1 for 9 in this series so far. the leafs have the second best penalty killing unit in the league and bozak won another face-off in his own zone and starts with mcclement. seidenberg a chance to set up. lucic, seidenberg takes the shot and krejci to redden. marchand is in the slot. here is wade redden. looks to the net and passes off. krejci sliding along the boards. marchand for seidenberg who is in dope and he moves the puck back to redden. around the outside and get nothing to the net.

redden does finally get a good shot and blast off someone and just wide. marchand is checked in a hurry. both mcclement and bozak got to him in a split second and get the puck on a change. >> gary: harm less setup by the bruins. they got one shot through and o'byrne got his skate on it to block it. >> bob: jagr and luccinic and bergeron and shooter this on the point, chara. shot knocked wide by reimer. bergeron passes back. chara looks to the net. on the other side a shot by seguin. that was blocked. but not cleared. chara holds it in. lobs one to the net. tipped out of the air by lucic but didn't get to the goal. pushed down was seguin but he made the play. bergeron, chara, jagr. doesn't want to shoot. in the middle. back is chara. he shoots. reimer makes the save. the rebound. by the point. and out.

down to the last 30 seconds of the power play in the penalty kill is going to change. chara checks the clock. played the puck to jaromir jagr. stick handle in and can't get the shod. mcclement cleared it. now they will come with some speed. krejci came back and got the puck. attacked the blue line with speed. horton spins as they try to get set up. jagr still on. to the net. in front. off the post! krejci put it off the post! penalty over. phaneuf is back out. komarov drops the puck for phaneuf. jagr is backchecking and on for a while. he gets the puck and plays that on to the wing and heads off. a little tip by marchand to set up krejci and he couldn't put it in the open net. gardiner hooks the puck to center and back to five-on-five here.

gardiner, peverley watching him. young defenseman to the puck off the board. a great backhand pass. kessel shoots and just missed. great backhand pass by bozak. back the other way comes peverley for boston. shoots. reimer makes the save and there is no rebound. a wonderful plan the bruins had but couldn't finish it off. marchand tipped to an open krejci and open net and off the post! deflected away. mcquaid forced back into his own zone. wade redden. komarov and mcclement. redden waits for his line mates, teammates to recoup. puck out to center. paille tried to tip it in. thornton on the fly. gardinen went at him as the puck is thrown out and sent back to the board. battle will go to the corner. now some time in space for ryan o'byrne. missed. he tried to flip the puck to center. he got a second chance and boston needed a change. now leafs are calling a change and here comes brad marchand. good defensive play by dion phaneuf. grabovski down low to get it and he got a piece of him as the

leafs dutch the puck in. van riemsdyk gets a licking on boychuk. grabovski overskated the puck and battles with bergeron. kulemin jumps in and try to drag the puck out and knocked down and back up. centering pass all the way to the point. phaneuf with a weak shot. no traffic in front and rask is able to make the save. >> gary: adjustments all year have made a difference for the leafs to get them to the playoffs and none most so than jamaica mcclement. his job on the penalty kill has been exceptional. he made a couple of great saves on that last kill to save some time. >> glenn: let's watch the leafs. you know campbell is going back to his left so orr switches with o'byrne and orr a jump on the draw and scramble. a face-off. face-off important, wouldn't you think, guys? >> bob: yes, indeed, it would

be. randy carlyle is a stickler for that and won't accept anything but the best attention to detail on face-offs. a david krejci rush. horton is out in the slot. krejci twisting and turning and lucic behind the net. coming right am him is beganarson. knocks the puck loose and goes after it and up the boards. chara held the puck in. kraj f krejci from horton and no garbage in front. well, no rebound. a little garbage in front. >> gary: you get a sense why this line is a handful. you see the damage they have done in this series. a one line offensive team for the bruins. different elements. the quickness of krejci and strength down low of lucic and then you add to that an aggressive mix. this is where the game is won and lost along the walls in your

defensive zone from reimer is able to make a big save and, most importantly, hold on to that rebound. >> glenn: i don't think guys realize the edge that krejci has. he has got the skills and hands and makes it look easy but he has a little bit of nastiness to him. so he is fits that line the in your face game he plays perfectly. >> bob: he has been waiting all season for the line mates just to show up and they finally have. he has been real good. probably the bruins most consistent forward all season. >> glenn: the defenders have to know number 17 is ready to come in and blow you around. >> bob: mcquaid takes a shot and reimer stopped it and covered up. i don't think he saw that as the shot came in from the point. >> gary: there is your positional save for reimer. bruins "d" doing a good job getting the pucks through. mcquaid wanted to get it through the traffic. look at the battle in front off the blocker and a quick reaction to get the rebound.

>> bob: they hit him before he saw it. he felt it and covered it up. leafs using their last change again. peverley ready for the face-off but he has to wait for grabovski. visitor gets home and puck down and puck dropped is the way it works and it did that time. grabovski wins another draw. toronto excellent on face-offs and particularly at their own end. not just in this game but through the series. >> gary: you have to wonder the lobbying going on. that is what the playoffs are about. you saw toronto complaining and randy carlyle complaining at the end of last game and claude julien making sure he understands no advantage is going the leafs way. >> bob: i don't think they can correct this problem right now, but at some point do you think the leafs have to become far less dependent for one player to take the bulk of their

welcome back to the lexus intermission report. toronto leads 2-0. when we are finished with game four in toronto, we are going to bring you coverage of game five between the st. louis blues and the l.a. kings here on cnbc. both goalies have been outstanding. brian elliott and john quick. the series is tied 2-2 with the home teams winning every game. short time ago, brian engloff spoke with rob. >> some teams struggle to come balk 2-2 never mind the playoffs. what is it about your team's personality that allows you to do that? >> i think you have to be confident in your ability as a group. you never want to give up those leads but if they happen you want to have the confidence to shrug it off and try to bla your game the rest of the time remaining. >> are you a believer in momentum from one game to the next? >> not really. just because i think it can slip

braden holtby is a perfect 6-0 in his career following a postseason loss. of course, the rangers did win game three. how did they do that? >> good time for the rangers. they had their grinders. their muckers and grinders like boyle and asham contributing for them. we know rick nash can score and we know you can't score every game. i don't care how good you are, it won't happen. having boyle and asham is a big plus for the rangers. >> how much do they miss ryane clowe? >> he was built for the playoffs. big time they miss him. able to score with the soft hands of him and drag and fighting in the trenches. he's a big loss for the rangers. >> back and forth that game three went at madison square garden the other night. what adjustments do you think the capitals need to make tonight? >> just score. they carried the play from during that game. i was there at msg and obvious the caps were carrying the play and had momentum going on their side and they couldn't get any
